What is the difference between an "Employee" and a "Company User" in SmartAsset?

Employees vs. Company Users

Although both employees and company users are stored in SmartAsset, they serve different purposes.

Employees

Employees are individuals whose information is stored in SmartAsset but who do not log in to the portal website.

Employee records are used to:

  • Store basic information such as name, contact details, and credentials.
  • Assign employees to crews, vehicles, or equipment.
  • Track workforce information within SmartAsset.

Employees are managed within the system, but they do not require a user account or access to SmartAsset.app

Company Users

Company users are individuals who log in to SmartAsset.app to perform their job duties.

Examples of company users include:

  • Fleet managers or supervisors who manage drivers and employees.
  • Mechanics who use the mobile app to record inspections, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Safety managers or coaches who log in to the Coaching Center to review driver performance and provide coaching.

The key difference is that company users need a login to access SmartAsset.app and perform tasks within the system, while employees are simply records that SmartAsset uses for assignments and tracking productivity.
