SmartAsset Live

6 min. readlast update: 07.20.2026

SmartAsset Live helps crews track, audit, and locate equipment in the field. Your crew's phone acts as a mobile data gateway, reading nearby sensors and streaming location, condition, and audit data to the cloud. No new infrastructure to mount or maintain, SmartAsset Live works alongside the system you already run.

Home Screen

When you open SmartAsset Live, you'll land on the Home screen. It greets you by name and gives you quick access to every major feature as a tappable row. Tap the ≡ menu icon in the top-left corner at any time for additional options such as locating equipment on a map.

From the Home screen you can:

  • Submit a Crew Audit to confirm which equipment is present
  • Show Missing Equipment that hasn't been detected
  • Identify Equipment by Barcode when you need details on a specific item
  • Assign Equipment to a BLE Sensor to enable automatic tracking
  • Detect Equipment Tags In-Range using your phone's Bluetooth scanner

1. Submit Crew Audit

Use this feature at the start or end of a shift to confirm that all of a crew's equipment is present in the yard.

How to submit an audit

1. From Home, tap Submit Crew Audit.

2. Tap the crew selector at the top of the screen to choose which crew you're auditing.

3. Select the crew and wait while the app scans for nearby equipment. Items that are detected turn green automatically. Items that are out of range or missing will appear in red.

4. Review the list. Each item shows its signal strength and how recently it was seen to help crews backtrack and locate the missing items before they leave the job site.

5. Once all items are green (100%), tap Submit Audit at the bottom of the screen.

How it works: Green items are detected nearby via Bluetooth. If an item shows red, it wasn't picked up by the scan. Walk around the trailer or work area until the equipment icon turns green.

Note: If your organization utilizes the global sensor, the equipment does not need to be within range of the mobile app or gateway. It functions as a standalone tracker that uses a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network.

If you find the equipment, but the app still shows it as red/missing, then tap the camera icon in the top-right to scan the SamrtAsset barcode or QR code directly. This will complete the audit successfully, but it usually indicates that the sensor needs to be replaced.

A completed audit.  All 5 of 5 items detected and ready to submit.

Show Missing Equipment

This feature lists any equipment that has not been detected recently, so you can track down items before they're truly lost.

How to find missing equipment

  1. From Home, tap Show Missing Equipment.
  2.  Review the list of items flagged Missing and notate the equipment type e.g. Truck, Trimmer, Mower.
  3. Click on the ≡ menu in the top left and select Locate Equipment on Map.
  4. Enter the equipment type you notated in the search bar and scroll the list until you see the name of the equipment missing.
  5. Click on the name and it will pull up the last known location on the map with a timestamp.

Note: If your organization utilizes the global sensor, the equipment will be live on the map. The global sensor does not need to be within range of the mobile app or gateway to share its location. It functions as a standalone tracker that uses a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network.

If the equipment is found and the app didn’t detect it, tap the camera icon in the top-right to scan the SmartAsset barcode to mark it found manually and replace the sensor.

Identify Equipment by Barcode

Use this feature when you need to quickly look up details for a specific piece of equipment using its barcode or QR code.

How to identify equipment

  1.  From Home, tap Identify Equipment by Barcode.
  2. Tap Scan Barcode to use your camera, or type the barcode number directly into the search field.
  3. Tap Look up to search for a match.
If no match is found, email support@smartasset.biz the barcode with a request for equipment history.
Where's the barcode?  Look for the SmartAsset barcode label or the tag's QR code on the equipment (see the circled areas in the example below). You can also scan your own ID/barcode tag if it was uploaded into the system with the equipment.

 Assign Equipment to BLE Sensor

Before equipment can be tracked automatically, it needs to be paired with a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) sensor. This feature links a physical sensor to a specific piece of equipment in the system.

How to assign a sensor

  1. From Home, tap Assign Equipment to BLE Sensor.
  2. Choose Assign New BLE Sensor to pair a sensor for the first time, or Replace BLE Sensor if an existing sensor needs to be swapped.
  3. Select the equipment that will be assigned or replaced by searching the list or scanning the equipment bar code. Note: When assigning a sensor for the first time, the equipment will show "no BLE sensor".

5. Follow the remaining on-screen steps to complete the sensor pairing.

Detect Equipment in Range

This screen lists all equipment detected by your phone. Tap on a piece of equipment to see additional details such as current movement status.

Locate Equipment on Map

Accessible from the ≡ menu, this screen shows the last known location of all of your equipment on a map, along with a distance-sorted list.

How to locate equipment

Open the ≡ menu and select Locate Equipment on Map.

Use the All equipment filter at the top to narrow results by type, branch, or crew.

  • Green numbered clusters on the map represent groups of equipment in that area. Zoom in to see individual items.
  • The blue pin marks your current location; the red pin marks an outlying piece of equipment.

Scroll the list below the map to see every located item, sorted closest to farthest.

Tap the info icon (ⓘ) next to any item for more details.
