Why Install a Y-Cable

A Y-cable keeps the OBD-II port available for diagnostic scans and hides GPS tracking devices by utilizing a replica port. This allows mechanics to access the port without unplugging the tracker or dash camera, reducing the risk that the device won't be reconnected after service.

Y-Cable Diagram 

1. Replica OBD-II port- replaces existing port in vehicle
2. Replacment bracket- if necessary 
3. Male Connector- plug the vehicle's original OBD-II port in here
4. Female Connector- plug GPS tracker or DashCam Cable in here 

Step 1. Gather Supplies

• Socket wrench set
• Screw driver
• Zip ties 
• Y Cable
• Plastic pry bar 
• DashCam or OBD-II GPS Tracking Device 

Step 2. Locate the Vehicle's OBD-II Port

The port can be found in any of the locations shown in the diagram below, but it's most frequently found under the driver side dashboard.

Step 3. Remove Vehicle's OBD-II Port from Bracket 

Remove any dash panels that may be obstructing access to the OBD II port using the plastic pry bar if necessary.

Next, remove the port from the OEM bracket.

In some vehicles, the OBD-II port can be removed by pressing the two retaining clips on the back of the connector and gently pulling it toward the pedals. In other vehicles the connector is secured with screws or bolts and must be removed using the appropriate screwdriver or socket wrench before the port can be pulled free.

Step 4. Connect Device and Secure Replica Port

1. Plug the OBD-II port that you removed from the bracket into the male connector (#3 in the diagram below).
2. Secure the replica port into the vehicle bracket with screws or a replacement bracket if necessary (#1 and #2 in the diagram below) 
3. Connect the DashCam cable or GPS device into the female connector (#4 in the diagram below) 

Step 5. Secure Cables in Dashboard

Tuck the Y-Cable side with the GPS tracker or the Dashcam cable behind the dash and secure with a zip tie or electrical tape. The orientation of the GPS tracker is not important, but ensuring its secured and immobile when the vehicle is moving is critical.

Step 6. Replace Dashboard Panels

Replace any dash plastic that was removed to access the port by snapping and screwing it back into place.
